Hive inspection

As an effort to eradicate AFB from New Zealand Asure Quality and the National bee association require by law that every hive has a full inspection at least once a year and have a report submitted back to Asure Quality. This inspection must be carried out by an approved beekeeper ( DEKA ). To find an approved beekeeper to do this job for you, contact your closest beekeeping club to you and they can guide you to someone who can help. A beekeeping club list will be included in the pack you receive in the post after registering your hive ( I suggest you join the closest one to you ). Otherwise you can contact Asure Quality and they will help organise this for you.

But best of all, become an approved beekeeper yourself and learn how to do your own inspections. DECA courses are held all over New Zealand several times a year. These are organised by the NBA and their website has a list of upcoming courses available. To attend one of these courses you will need to buy and learn a book called "Elimination of American Foulbrood Disease without the use of Drugs" ( books are available from NBA and beekeeper suppliers ) and register for a class that will take one day and complete the test afterwards.
